of the dam
Bel Sheba.
In 1986,
Alysheba
started
racing in
full vigor
and posted
a place in
the
Breeders’
Cup
Juvenile
but lost
the
Hollywood
Futurity
in a photo
finish.
During the
Derby
session,
though he
was nearly
knocked at
the
ground,
recovered
and won
the derby
in style.
After this
marvelous
win, he
came
forward
with
another
win in the
Preakness
Stakes and
tried to
become
American
racing’s
twelfth
Triple
Crown
winner in
the
Belmont
Stakes. In
the
Breeders’
Cup
Classic,
he
eventually
faced 1986
Kentucky
Derby
winner
Ferdinand.
Alysheba
though
lost the
vote for
Horse of
the Year
to
Ferdinand
but was
named
1987’s
Champion
Three Year
Old. In
1988, when
he was
only four
years old,
posted win
in the
Santa
Anita
Handicap.
In his
career, he
had
participat
ed
twenty-six
races and
finished
with a
classic
figure of
11-8-2. In
1993,
Alysheba
was
inducted
in the
National
Museum of
Racing and
Hall of
Fame.
Alysheba
was given
the
service of
stud at
Lane’s End
Farm in
Woodford
Country,
Kentucky
until 1999
and was
then sold
to
breeding
operation
in Saudi
Arabia.
Desert
Waves is
one of his
notable
offspring.
