Notes
The Jerome Handicap is an American grade II thoroughbred horseracing event that is run each year at one mile on the dirt track of Belmont Park. This race is open for three years old horses. Jerome Handicap is the second oldest stakes race in the country and it is named for Leonard W Jerome, the founder of the old Jerome Park in The Bronx. In this racetrack, Eddie Arcaro rode the great Kelso and clinched victory in 1960. The Jerome was run for the first time at Jerome Park between 1866 and 1889 and then it was moved to Morris Park. From 1905 onwards, the race used to take place at Aqueduct Race Track. Between 1910 and 1913, the race did not take place — and the distance was set at two miles from 1871 to 1877. The Jerome Handicap used to take place at a mile and quarter in 1893, 1894 and from 1896 to 1909 while it was a mile and a furlong in 1895.
