Notes:
Alan Garcia was brought up within an environment that used to appreciate horse racing; his father and grandfather were riders in Peru and his mother had great interest in horse racing too. It was one of his friends - Alfredo Clemente - who gave him suggestion for coming down to the United States. During 2003, he spent a few months as an apprentice at the Meadowlands and then started his career as jockey. Earlier, he got training in riding horses from a jockey school in Peru. He is the last rider to drive 2003 Kentucky Derby winner Funny Cide on July 4, 2007. Funny Cide clinched victory in the Wadsworth Memorial Handicap at Finger Lakes. He registered his first grade I victory riding Lahudood in the 2006 Flower Bowl Invitational but the most notable performance is of course came through DaTara. It was a great surprise when Garcia rode to victory in the third leg of the Triple Crown, 2008 Belmont Stakes.
