Papa Clem is a homebred. Bo Hirsch named the colt after his father, the legendary Clement L. Hirsch. His father was a successful owner and breeder in California for about 40 years. After his fathers death in 2000, Bo Hirsch establishm ent the Oak Tree Racing Associatio n. Clement Hirsch served as the first president of the organizati on. Since 1969, every fall a meeting is organised at Santa Anita. As a president, Clement Hirsch assisted Oak Tree to stage the Breeders\' Cup in 2 years - 1986 and 1993. In the honor of Clement L. Hirsch, 2 major races have been named - grade II Clement L. Hirsch Handicap at Del Mar and grade I Clement L. Hirsch Turf Championsh ip Stakes at Oak Tree. Significan t horses raced include - Figonero and Magical Maiden and Miss Houdini. Miss Houdini is the dam of Papa Clem. Gary Stutes uncle Warren Stute, trained Figonero, Magical Maiden and Miss Houdini. Gary Stute is training Papa Clem for the forthcomin g Kentucky Derby.
