Bill Casner loved horses at an early age. He commenced riding horses in 1963 at Sunland Park. He completed college education from Tarleton State University in Stephenvil le,Texas. He embarked on a training career in the Midwest after graduation . In 1979, Casner founded Excel Communicat ions with former horse owner Kenny Troutt. Excel went public in 1996. Bill Casner entered Thoroughbr ed industry in mid- 1990s, through racing partnershi ps. Mr.Troutt and he formed another partnershi p in 2000. WinStar Farm was establishe d in Versailles , Kentucky. Bill Casner has received numerous awards. In 2007 he received Thoroughbr ed Charities of America Leadershi p Award, W.T. Young Humanitari an Award in 2005 and TOBA Industry Service Award in 2003. Currently, Bill Casner serves on the Thoroughbr ed Owners and Breeders Associatio n board of trustees. He is the co-founder and vice chairman of the Kentucky Equine Education Project (KEEP). He is also the founding member of The Race For Education. The Race for Education is a national scholarshi p foundation providing educationa l opportunit ies to children of farm workers.
