The Kentucky Oaks is a Grade I stakes race for three year old thoroughbreds that takes place on the Friday before the Kentucky Derby every year, in Louisville, Kentucky. The race covers 1 1/8 miles at Churchill Downs and the winner gets a $500,000 dollar purse and a large garland of lilies, called "Lillies for the Fillies."
