The Massachusetts Handicap is an American thoroughbred horse-racing event that is run at a distance of nine furlongs on the left-handed dirt tracks of Suffolk Downs racetrack. At present, it is considered that the race is part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge series and the winner of the 2008 Massachusetts Handicap will automatically be included in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. If we go back to history, we find the Massachusetts Handicap to start it’s journey on October 16, 1935. In the middle – between 1990 and 1994 and again in 2003, 2005 and 2006, the race did not take place. The race was run in 2004 as a grade II horse-racing event for 2005 and 2006. At present, this racing event carries a purse of $500,000.
