Notes: Affirmed is the eleventh winner of the US Triple Crown of Thoroughbr ed Racing. Considerin g his pedigree he had potentiali ty to break the jinx of the triple crown – he was rightly from the great-grea t-grandson of the Triple Crown Winner War Admiral through dam-sire Crafty Admiral. Since his birth on February 21st, 1975, Affirmed ran several races but his rivalry with Alydar is noticeable ; Affirmed met with him ten times, including in all three Triple Crown races — interestin gly Alydar became the first racehorse to finish second in all three Triple Crown races. After his brilliant career in racing, Affirmed was syndicated at a then-recor d 14.4 million dollars; he has sired over 80 stakes winners, 9 champions including Flawlessly and Peteski (Canadian triple crown winner in 1993). In 2001, Affirmed was euthanized after falling ill with laminitis – a circulator y hoof disease. He was buried at Jonabell Farm.
