Notes:
Assault is
a famous
thoroughbr
ed
racehorse
that has
won US
Triple
Crown in
1946. He
was born
at King
Ranch in
Texas and
was
described
as “on the
delicate
side” by
his later
jockey –
Eddie
Arcaro.
Since it’s
younger
years,
Assault
suffered
physical
problems.
He made
his racing
debut
under Max
Hirsch’s
training
as two
year old
in 1945
and
finished
twelfth.
He
completed
that year
with a
record of
two wins
in nine
starts.
Just at
the
beginning
of his
third
year, he
snatched
victory in
the
prestigiou
s Wood
Memorial.
Along with
jockey
Warren
Mehrtens,
he way
past the
finishing
line and
registered
victory to
win the
first
jewel of
the US
Triple
Crown. In
the
Preakness
Stakes, he
got a neck
victory
over the
closers at
the
finishing
line.
Assault
exploded
past his
compatriot
s in the
Belmont
Stakes and
won the
Triple
Crown
title in
style. His
four-year-
old career
was very
colorful –
out of
seven
starts he
won five
stakes and
never
registered
worst than
third.
After his
retirement
, he was
proved a
sterile —
ultimately
died on
September
1st, 1971
at an age
of
twenty-eig
ht at King
Ranch.
