The Farrell Report: Maxfield Set For Stephen Foster At Churchill; Fans Should Flock To Saratoga - Posted on June 21, 2021

By Mike Farrell The Triple Crown compellingly dominates the racing world for five dramatic weeks in late Spring, shunting the other divisions temporarily to the background. The trio of classics for 3-year-olds are the sport’s most important races, and rightfully command the lion’s share of attention. With the Triple Crown now in our collective rear-view mirrors, we can again focus on the sport’s veteran stars, starting with the Saturday card at Churchill Downs. Closing day of the meet features a pair of Grade 2 stakes that are Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” qualifiers: the Stephen Foster and the Fleur

Royal Ascot Day 5: Dream Of Dreams Finally Wins Diamond Jubilee - Posted on June 19, 2021

By Richard Rosenblatt With 2 furlongs to go in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee on the final day of the Royal Ascot meeting, trainer Sir Michael Stoute believed Dream of Dreams was right where he needed to be. “I was pretty hopeful from two out,” Stoute said. Hope turned into Stoute’s record-extending 82nd victory at one of the world’s most prestigious race meets as Dream of Dreams caught the leaders with about a furlong to go and won by a length over a game Glen Shiel. Art Power was third in the 14-horse field. Twice before, Dream of Dreams was

Royal Ascot Day 4: Campanelle Wins Commonwealth Cup On DQ - Posted on June 18, 2021

By Ed McNamara The gray colt and the front-running bay filly splashed through the final furlong head-to-head. Campanelle got her nose in front a few strides from the wire, but Dragon Symbol got his down when it counted. That was gut-wrenching enough, but the real drama started after the finish. Dragon Symbol had drifted about eight paths to his right, bumping Campanelle three times, and the horn signaling an inquiry sounded. Oisin Murphy, last year’s English champion, had whipped left-handed as he angled across Royal Ascot’s soaked course, and the consensus was that he would be disqualified in Friday’s Group

The Lineup: Tune In For Turf Stakes At Royal Ascot, Belmont, Santa Anita, Monmouth - Posted on June 18, 2021

By Richard Rosenblatt If you love betting on turf races, this is your weekend to excel, with the final day of the Royal Ascot meet, and no less than five graded stakes on the turf at Santa Anita, Monmouth Park and Belmont Park. The fifth and final day at Royal Ascot kicks off Saturday’s racing coverage, with NBCSN once again broadcasting live from the racecourse in Berkshire, England. The feature is the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes with a field of 14 going 6 furlongs over a course that could be soft due to a 50% chance of rain. Starman

Monmouth Park: No Whip, Not Much Change From Usual Trends - Posted on June 18, 2021

By Noel Michaels The 2021 Monmouth Park summer race meet is rolling along amid quite the buzz these days, but perhaps for all the wrong reasons. While the focus should be on the quality racing and wagering the track has to offer, the headlines have mostly been about the track’s controversial restrictive new rule banning the use of the whip during racing and training except in subjective cases involving the safety of horses and jockeys. The meet opened on May 28, and is racing three days a week, Fridays through Sundays plus holidays. The meet encompasses 48 racing days until

Royal Ascot Day 3: Stradivarius Comes Up Short In Gold Cup Won by Subjectivist - Posted on June 17, 2021

By Ed McNamara All eyes were on Stradivarius, but when Joe Fanning looked back with 100 yards to go, he couldn’t see him. Unlike the superstar chasing a record-tying fourth consecutive Gold Cup, Fanning’s mount had enjoyed a perfect trip, and Subjectivist coasted by five lengths Thursday in Royal Ascot’s most revered race. The 7-year-old Stradivarius finished fourth, 7 1/4 lengths back. The 4-5 favorite lost for the fourth time in his last five starts as he failed to equal Yeats’ streak from 2006-2009. Frankie Dettori kept Stradivarius in mid-pack on the rail, and they were eighth a mile into
