Lisa's Booby Trap, Always First win at Saratoga
August 7, 2010SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - Lisa's Booby Trap, ridden by Kent Desormeaux, took the Loudonville for 3-year-old fillies, and long shot Always First won the John's Call in co-featured $70,000 stakes races Friday at Saratoga Race Course.
Lisa's Booby Trap, who begin her career in May and until Friday run only at Finger Lakes Racetrack, extended her unbeaten streak to four in the 6-furlong Loudonville. She won by 6 lengths in 1:09.64 on a fast track after beginning well behind the early leaders.
The filly, who has a clubfoot, is blind in her left eye and was given away as a hopeless case by her breeder, Ocala Stud, earned $42,000 for owner and trainer Tim Snyder. Snyder, her third owner, acquired the then-unnamed Lisa's Booby Trap for $4,500.
She paid $5, $3.10 and $2.30. Runner-up Nonna Mia returned $3.10 and $2.50, and Stormandaprayer, third of five, paid $3.60 to show.
Always First, a 9-year-old gelding, rallied strongly to take the lead in deep stretch and was a length in front of Perfect Shower at the wire. Robbie Albarado rode Always First, who ran 1 5/8 miles over the main turf course in 2:41.47 and paid $44.60, $20.60 and $12. The Tom Voss-trained winner earned $42,000 for his owner, Merriefield Farm.
Perfect Shower paid $9.10 and $6.80, and Coolcullen Times, third of 12, returned $12.60 to show.
