Awesome Flower confirms affinity for synthetics by winning Wintergreen
January 4, 2015Awesome Flower ran her career record on synthetics to 5 for 7 by posting a popular victory Saturday night under Didiel Osorio in the $53,967 Wintergreen Stakes at Turfway Park.
Owned by Ken and Sarah Ramsey and trained by Mike Maker, Awesome Flower rallied from seventh in a field of 11 fillies and mares to earn a 1 1/4-length score over Moment in Dixie. She returned $5 after finishing the one-mile distance in 1:38.02 over Polytrack.
Maid On a Mission led much of the way before settling for third, another 4 3/4 lengths behind Moment in Dixie.
Bred in Maryland, Awesome Flower had not raced since Sept. 25 when finishing second in an ungraded stakes at Presque Isle Downs. A versatile 6-year-old mare by Flower Alley, Awesome Flower now has a record of 9-5-5 from 28 career starts and earnings of nearly $465,000.
The stakes victory was the first of 2015 for the Ramseys, the Nicholasville, Ky., couple who won 29 stakes last year, 10 of them graded.
The Wintergreen was the first of seven stakes at a winter-spring meet that runs through March 29.
