Royal Song Dancer Wins in By the Light Stakes
January 11, 2015Royal Song Dancer improved her record to 3 for 4 on Friday night, when she wired the field in the $75,000 By the Light Stakes at Delta Downs in Vinton, La. She won by 3 1/2 lengths over Z Smoke, while it was another half-length back in third to Cool Song.
Royal Song Dancer ($17) broke on top and proceeded to take the field through an opening quarter in 23.11 seconds in the seven-furlong race, run around two turns. Royal Song Dancer continued to control the tempo through a half-mile in 48 seconds and six furlongs in 1:14.68, before winning in 1:28.66 on a track rated good. Billy Patin was aboard for trainer Chad Cook.
Royal Song Dancer, who races for Michelle Y. Brown, won a maiden special weight at Indiana Grand in her debut in July. She then was 10th in the $100,000 Mountaineer Juvenile Fillies before taking an allowance at Delta and the By the Light.
Royal Song Dancer earned $45,000 for the win, to improve her career mark to $82,900. She is a daughter of Langfuhr and she was bred in Kentucky by Dale Romans.
The By the Light is named for the 2007 winner of the Delta Downs Princess. By the Light has since produced By the Moon, winner of last year’s Grade 1 Frizette at Belmont Park.
