Remsen probably next for Mohaymen
November 7, 2015OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Mohaymen came out of his victory in Wednesday’s Nashua Stakes here in good order and likely will make his next start in the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes at Aqueduct on Nov. 28, trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said.
Mohaymen acted up prior to the Nashua but was all business on the track, recording a 1 3/4-length victory in the Nashua, his second from as many starts. Mohaymen reared up in the paddock and was a little difficult to load on Wednesday. He broke a little slowly, was sixth early, and rallied to get the win under Junior Alvarado. He ran a mile in 1:36.01 and earned an 89 Beyer Speed Figure.
McLaughlin said that Rich Nichols, racing manager for the colt’s owner, Shadwell Stable, favors the Remsen over the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs the same day in part because of Mohaymen’s prerace behavior. ”He did act up, and not shipping might be better for him,” McLaughlin said. Meanwhile, Annual Report, who won the Grade 2 Futurity at Belmont sprinting in early October, was scheduled to work Friday at Belmont. He is a candidate for the Delta Jackpot on Nov. 21 or the Kentucky Jockey Club or Remsen.
