SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) -Former Horse of the Year Point Given joined jockeys Randy Romero and Alex Solis among the 10 finalists nominated Monday for election to the National Museum of Racing's Hall of Fame.

Point Given was Horse of the Year and Champion 3-year-old Male in 2001, the year he finished fifth in the Kentucky Derby before rebounding to win the Preakness, Belmont, Haskell and Travers in succession.

The other nominees are Azeri, Best Pal, Open Mind, Safely Kept and Sky Beauty, and trainers Gary Jones and Robert Wheeler.

The nominees were selected from 76 candidates suggested by turf writers, racing industry participants and fans. Under a revised format, all the candidates are grouped together rather than being divided into categories. The four with the highest number of votes from the hall's panel will be elected.

Results of the vote will be announced May 28. Induction ceremonies are on Aug. 13 at the hall in Saratoga Springs.

Romero was the regular rider of Go for Wand and the undefeated Personal Ensign, winning Breeders' Cup races on both of them.

Solis won the Preakness, Santa Anita Derby, Florida Derby and Jersey Derby with Snow Chief and the Breeders' Cup Classic and Dubai World Cup with Pleasantly Perfect.

Wheeler, who died in 1992, trained 56 stakes winners, including Silver Spoon, the co-champion 3-year-old filly of 1959.

Jones twice won the Santa Anita Handicap and trained 1986 Champion Older Male Turkoman.

Azeri was Horse of the Year in 2002 and Champion Older Female in 2002, 2003 and 2004. She posted 12 Grade 1 wins during her career.

Best Pal is one of only four horses to win the Santa Anita Handicap, Hollywood Gold Cup and Charles H. Strub Stakes.
