John McKee was brought up in an environment, where horse racing was given much importance than any other sports. His father, David, was a jockey in the United States horse racing circuit during late 1970s and in the early part of 1980s. John was inspired in riding horses by his father; he grew up in the Cincinnati area and was always surrounded by horses; this is the place where he learned to ride at an early age. Besides riding, he was a champion wrestler in high school. Though his parents discourage him from becoming a jockey, he got his start with Thoroughbred only at the age of seventeen at Poplar Creek Farm near Bethel, Ohio and grew up to be an exercise rider. He came into contact with the legendary jockeyâs agent Eddie Campbell and posted his first winning title on May 27, 2002 at River Downs on Storm Cup. John was the leading rider at Oaklawn Park and at Churchill Downsâ fall meeting and registered wins in the 2007 Holiday Meet at Turfway Park Racetrack. At present, he runs in various racing tracks across the United States and has shown consistent performance all through.
