His wife̢۪s name is Renee and they have a daughter Siena. He is the son of a top South American jockey and the nephew of retired jockey Fernando Toro and trainer Juan Suarez.


Notes:
He is a well known jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing. Jose started his professional riding career as an apprentice in 1974 at Belmont Park and earned his first win in his third start. He along with his family moved to United States in 1989. He won the 2001 Breeders̢۪ Cup Mile at Belmont Park riding for fellow Peruvian trainer Julio Canani.
