She is the daughter of noted northwestern trainer James Walsh. Kathy got an assistant trainer's license in 1962 and the certification for training horses in 1970.

Notes:
Leading trainer at Longacres Park in Washington State four times in the 1970s; first female to win a training title; won the Tacoma Handicap (at Longacres) three times, in '72, '82 and '92. Some of her great performers include Brass Knight, Cascade Katie, Pelegrin Sands, Scorned Timber, Ice in Space, Havadasher , Whoa Boy, Auguste (winner of the Canadian Derby), Tilt the Balance, Little Joker, Boundless Moment, Turbolaunc h, Islay Mist, Blazonry and Staff Riot.
