Notes: At his childhood days, Kent Desormeaux wanted to be a professional basketball player. He began to ride in 1986 at Evangeline Downs and scored his first win riding Miss Tavern. He moved to Maryland in 1986 and enthralled the entire nation by his stupendous performance. In 1989 he made the record for victories in a year, counting 598. He married his childhood friend Sonia and they moved to Southern California in 1990. With their first child on the way, Desormeaux was involved in a spill at Hollywood Park. He was kicked off in the head by a trailing horse and fractured his skull in several places with profuse internal bleeding. At the age of twenty-five, he won his 3000th race and became the youngest jockey ever to reach that mark in 1995. Desormeaux became the youngest jockey to surpass $100 million in career earnings when he won the Philip H. Iselin Handicap at Monmouth Park with Formal Gold. In 2001, Kent became the third youngest jockey behind Bill Shoemaker and Chris McCarron to win 4000 races. He is the first foreign-based jockey to win a Japanese classic with Lady Pastel in the Japanese Oaks. He was elected to the Racing�s Hall of Fame in 2004. In the 1998 US Triple Crown session, Real Quiet raced to victory in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes but lost his bid to win the US Triple Crown when Victory Gallop beat him in the last leg of the Belmont Stakes.
