1961-09-08 Wilmington Delaware, USA Currently Residing: Wilmington Delaware USA Height: - - Notes: Mario Pino is a popular jockey in the American thoroughbred horseracing circuit. He started his career in 1978 at Delawara Park in Wilmington. Mario wanted to become a jockey since his childhood days and for that reason he learned the art of riding horses from his nearby farm and horse-training school. As he grew old, he started participating in horseracing championships at venues in the Delaware, Maryland and Virginia areas. He became the fifteenth jockey in North American racing history to make the historic landmark of achieving 6000 career wins on November 7, 2007 starting from January 16th, 1979 at Bowie Race track. Another terrific feat that he has made is something anew in the history; it is hoped that the record will remain untouched for a long period. Mario Pino won seven races on a single day on July 7, 2002 at Colonial Downs in New Kent, Virginia and again on October 25, 2003 he had six win a day at Laurel Park Racecourse. Mario has ridden twice in the Preakness Stakes and finished off the board on both the occasions. In the debut match of the Kentucky Derby, on May 5th 2007, Pino rode the colt and completed the race securing the second spot; thereafter stood third in the Preakness stakes. Pino rode Hard Spun to finish second in the Breeders̢۪ Cup classic at the same time; besides these racing victories he won the King̢۪s Bishop stakes and the Kentucky Cup Classic Stakes too. |
