Mark Guidry cherished to become a jockey since his childhood days. His desire fulfilled at 16 when he took part in pari-mutuel wagering at Delta Downs with his favorite Temperamental Tom. He continued riding in Louisiana until 1986 and later moved to Fairmount Park in Illinois to try his luck. He is popularly called âKing of Chicagoâ because of his dominating performances at Hawthorne and Sportsmanâs Park. He won seven times at Hawthorne Race Course while nine times at Sportsmanâs Park. He reached 4,000th race landmark at Arlington Park on July 2000 and became the 36th rider to reach acquire this distinction. Guidry was inducted into the Hawthorne Hall of Fame in 1997 for earning seven riding titles. Mark Guidryâs achievement includes the West Virgina Derby (Real Dandy), Santa Anita Derby (Buzzards Bay), Washington Park H (Perfect Drift) and Golden Rod (French Park). He was given the George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award in 2006. Guidry became the 21st jockey to reach 5000th career victory landmark on May 4, 2007.
