Born:
1948-09-14 New York New York USA Currently Residing: Massapequa Park New York USA His wife Sharon is interested in horseracing; his two sons - Ryan and Quinn and daughter Casey also help Michael in training and grooming during their leisure time. Notes: It was a chance and coincidenc e that brought Michael into horseracin g. He had, in fact, no idea what the horseracin g was all about. While he was at his teens, suddenly he discovered this sport interestin g. He decided to leave the University of Oklahoma and pursued a career in racing. Started working as a groom and assistant for Hall of Fame trainer Allen Jerkens for the next five years. Michael with a little resource opened his own stable in 1975 and posted his first winning title with Tugboat Ryan at Aqueduct in the same year. Within a couple of years, Michael became one of the important thoroughbr ed trainers in the American horseracin g arena. He has earned two New York training titles: 1992-1993 aqueduct inner track with twenty-eig ht victories and the other one in 2003 Aqueduct Spring with twenty three. It was a really tough luck when he could not race past trainer Bill Mott in the 1998 Saratoga meeting tally — he tied with thirteen wins and had to satisfy himself by securing the second spot. Michael has saddled two horses in the Breedersâ €™ Cup: Noteasybei ngreen that finished tenth in the 1998 Juvenile and Nothing But Fun completed seventh in the 2005 Distaff. On February 28, 2007 Michael saddled River City Rebel to clinch the winning title at Aqueduct and completed his 1000th race. |
