Notes
Anthony Lenci's Catalina Red, who broke his maiden with a 7 1/4-length romp in the Inaugural S. over this track three weeks earlier, is set to square off against two of his rivals from that contest and six others for a purse of $50,000, with an additional $50,000 available for Florida-bred runners. The son of Munnings is eligible for that bonus, as is Inaugural runner-up Charlie's Brother and X Y Jet. Catalina Red has never been off the board in four starts, including his first two outings on the grass in south Florida. Charlie's Brother also needed four tries to break his maiden, having done so against open company over a wet fast surface at Gulfstream Park. He regressed afterwards when fifth while trying to stretch out to a 1m in a Gulfstream Park West optional claimer then duplicated his career top 86 BRIS Speed Rating as best of the rest in the Inaugural. X W Jet capped the exacta over Catalina Red in a Nov. 8 Gulfstream Park West statebred maiden race then failed to hit the board for the first time in his six-race career when a troubled fourth in the Buffalo Man S. there 21 days later. He'll be making his first start with trainer Jorge Navarro after racing out of Antonio Sano's barn. Fair Grounds invader Wake Up Joe is also debuting for a new barn, having been moved from co-owner Doug Matthews to Michael Dini for his stakes debut. The Zensational colt has a 3-1-1-1 record and exits an outstanding nose loss to the highly-regarded Toasting Master in an optional claiming race at Churchill Downs. Big Family dominated in his only start, a 7F maiden race at Gulfstream Park West, and retains Hall of Famer Edgar Prado in the irons. Vakeesh broke his maiden in his second attempt at Delaware Park but was no factor when running a distant fifth in the Inaugural. Takechargecopeland was competitive against restricted company at Indiana Grand and broke his maiden by five lengths there. He'll be facing open company for this first time in this spot off a dull seventh in the Indiana Futurity. Dekabrist made a stellar debut at Gulfstream Park with a 15-length laugher in May and took that track's Kodiak Island S. nearly five weeks later. He's been beaten a combined 90 lengths in five races since then, with four of those being graded stakes. Drama King has raced exclusively in maiden claiming races and found the winner's circle last month with a six-length victory in a MC 50000 at Gulfstream Park West.
