Notes: Paulo Lobo is a third-gene ration horseman who started his career assisting his father in Brazil during 1988. His grandfathe r, Trajano Lobo had won 13 titles in Brazil while his father Selmar Lobo was a leading trainer at Sao Paolo racing circuit. He posted a win at the G2 Honeymoon Breeders' Cup Handicap with Quero Quero and Lovely Rafaela. At present, Lobo is the owner of a public stable at Hollywood Park. Though Paulo has little derby experience , he is not completely unaware of the Derby Week festivitie s at Churchill Downs. It was in 2002, when his Farda Amiga raced to victory in the Kentucky Oaks. He knows well that his colt, Gayego, can perform brilliantl y on the synthetic turf but he has no experience on the dirt surface. Considerin g these factors, he allowed Gayego to race in the Arkansas Derby – Gayego had no problem to clinch the winning title at ease.
