Notes: Reade Baker was brought up within a small dairy farm from where he learned the art of riding and how to maintain horses. When he was only fourteen years old, his uncle took him to Fort Erie racetrack. During his school days, he used to cut classes for attending racetracks . One day, he was caught red-handed by his parents, who then decided to send him to a boarding school in Kitchener, Ontario. Incidental ly, he met with a child, John Chris, the son of a horse trainer. As soon as he left schooling, he got a job on the racetrack in 1965 as a groom and later as an exercise rider. In 1985, Baker became a manager for Rick Kennedy and was in charge for a group of horses. He gathered experience gradually and opened a stable of his own in 1990. He was elected to the Jockey Club of Canada in 2002 and won his first Sovereign Award as Canada̢۪ s leading trainer. From the 2007 Keeneland September yearling sale, Reade bought as many as thirteen horses. |
