Notes: Skip Away is an American thoroughbr ed racehorse that was foaled in Florida and is the son of Skip Trial out of the Diplomatâ s Way mare Ingot Way. It was purchased by Hall of Fame trainer Hubert Hine for his wife Carolyn. As far as record book speaks, he posted his first career win at three by defeating Louis Quatorza by a straight six lengths. Skip Away had a seemingly poor performanc e in the Kentucky Derby but recovered the session by finishing second in both the Preakness and Belmont Stakes. His win in the 1996 Haskell Invitation al Handicap is noteworthy ; in this racing he defeated the then champion horse Cigar and registered win in seventeen of eighteen participat ions. When he was four years old, he faced some unnecessar y defeats in the Philip Handicap, Iselin Breedersâ Cup Handicap at Monmouth Park and in the Woodward Stakes at Belmont Park. He was inducted into National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 2004 and is ranked the top 100 US thoroughbr ed champions of the 20th century in the Blood horse magazine. It was in 2001 at the Gulfstream Park Racetrack in Hallandale Beach, Florida that he was honored by renaming its Broward Handicap the Skip Away Handicap.
