Catalano hooked up with the Hall of Fame trainer Jack Van Berg at Fair Grounds and gradually learned the game right from the initial stage. As he grew old, he began exercising horses for Van Berg and then rode competitiv ely posting a victory on may 20, 1974 at the historic Churchill Downs Racetracks . He holds the honor of becoming North America†™s second-lea ding rider by wins in 1977. He has won more than one thousand seven hundred and ninety two races during a nine-year riding career. Though his riding career was over, he stayed involved with Van Berg’s barn to gather knowledge about horse training. He has posted several wins Arlington in the past eight years and has set an Arlington record with 74 wins in 2007 and ranks fourth in all time victories at Arlington with 623. Catalano has a number of victories in the Breedersâ €™ Cup races too. In 2007, he has gathered 120 races from 371 starts. |
