The Sham Stakes is an American horseracing meet that is raced at a distance of one and one eight miles on the dirt track of Santa Anita Park. This grade III horseracing event is for three-year-old thoroughbred horses. At present, this horseracing event carries a purse of $200,000. The race was inaugurated in 2001 and has been raced at the left-handed cushion track of Santa Anita Park racetrack, California. The name of the race is for the winner of the 1973 Santa Anita Park Derby â racehorse Sham. Sham is also remembered for his great battle against the Secretariat in the US Triple Crown Races. Man Among Men clocked 1:48:39 to set a record victory in 2003, which is yet to break by any of the contenders. Victor Espinoza won this race thrice as jockey while Bob Baffert clinched victory twice as trainer. The Pamplemousse won the title in 2009.
